RWE doubles Italy build to 235MW

RWE has more than doubled its renewable capacity under construction in Italy to 235MW after kicking off 123MW of new wind and solar projects in 2026.

The company said this follows the start of construction in 2025 on 112MW of wind and solar assets, which together will be able to supply over 190,000 Italian households with electricity once completed.

Last year RWE began building its first commercial-scale Agri-PV plants in Campania and two major onshore wind farms in Apulia and Basilicata.

“Busy times for our construction teams in Italy: three onshore wind farms, one solar park and six Agri-PV projects are rising in parallel across the country,” said Katja Wünschel, chief executive of RWE Renewables Europe & Australia.

“That’s 26 wind turbines and 127,000 solar modules with a total capacity of 235 megawatts, which will soon power 190,000 Italian homes,” she added.

Construction is under way on the 66MW Alas onshore wind farm in Sardinia, which features ten 6.6MW turbines.

The Ponte Valentino 1 & 2 solar parks totalling 19MWac are also being built in Benevento in Campania.

RWE is constructing four Agri-PV plants across Campania, Sicily and Calabria with a combined 38.2MWac and 50,000 modules, which will use elevated or high-tilt structures to support agri-pastoral activity.

The developer plans to monitor performance and gather meteorological and agricultural data at the Agri-PV sites.

Further construction is expected shortly on the 42MW Serra Giannina wind farm in Potenza in Basilicata.
