Collett has completed delivery of 189 wind turbine components to EDF power solutions UK’s 102MW Stranoch Wind Farm in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland.
The logistics specialist transported components for 20 Vestas turbines comprising nine V150s, seven V136s and four V117s, with all loads arriving via Cairnryan Port.
Collett said the 8.4-mile route to site mainly followed rural single-track roads, requiring detailed coordination due to limited port storage and varied turbine specifications.
The company used Nooteboom Super Wing Carriers to move all blades, including 74-metre V150 blades described as the longest it has delivered in the UK using that trailer type.
Tower sections were carried on Nooteboom tower clamp trailers, while nacelles were moved on step-frame and clamp trailers and hubs and drive trains on six and eight-axle step-frame trailers.
Deliveries operated on a double-shift pattern on many weekdays with dedicated police escorts and Collett’s in-house escort fleet supporting each movement.
Collett said it worked closely with EDF power solutions UK, Police Scotland, Transport Scotland, Dumfries & Galloway Council and AMEY to ensure safety and minimise local disruption.
