Orsted confirms Irish Sea wake effects deal

Orsted has confirmed that a legal agreement has now been reached over projected wake effects from JERA Nex BP and EnBW’s 1.5GW Mona and 1.5GW Morgan arrays off north-west England.

The Danish developer did not reveal any details of the deal, but said it would mitigate impacts on production at neighbouring wind farms it operates.

Orsted had raised objections to both Round 4 projects based on potential losses to output from a fleet of its Irish Sea wind farms, including Burbo Bank (pictured).

Consent for Mona was granted earlier this year with a requirement for JERA Nex BP-EnBW to get approval for a wake effects plan.

For Morgan, which is due a permit decision by 10 September, the scheme backers said there did not need to be a similar DCO requirement due to the agreement concluded with Orsted, according to planning filings.

“We can confirm that we have reached agreement with the developers of the Mona and Morgan offshore wind farms that will mitigate their impact on our production”, said a spokesperson for Orsted.

“As a consequence of this agreement, on behalf of our impacted operational wind farms, Orsted believes that the Mona wind farm has satisfactorily met requirement 29 in its Development Consent Order and Orsted has also withdrawn its representations in respect of the Morgan offshore wind farm.

“Having concluded these agreements, we look forward to a continued cooperative relationship during the construction and operation of the Morgan and Mona wind farms.”
