Taiyo Power & Storage has secured planning permission for a 9MWp extension to the Moss Farm solar project in Sefton, Merseyside.
The joint venture between Kajima Partnership and Low Carbon Alliance said the scheme will generate clean electricity for over 6000 homes, cut carbon emissions and improve regional energy resilience.
It forms part of a wider Taiyo plan to deliver about 22MWp of renewable capacity across adjoining sites, partly located on a former landfill west of the A565.
Taiyo said the proposal makes use of poor agricultural land while limiting visual impact on the wider landscape.
The 40-year consent includes habitat measures such as hedgerow and meadow grassland planting, delivering a biodiversity net gain of 133.85%.
According to the company, these improvements will support wildlife, strengthen green corridors and contribute to Sefton’s environmental targets.
Since launching in 2021, Taiyo has built a portfolio of ground-mounted solar and battery energy storage facilities across the UK.
Director Simon Crowe said: “This planning decision marks a key step forward for Taiyo in its mission to deliver the solar energy assets needed to improve the UK’s renewable energy capacity.
“In addition to generating green energy to power UK households, the construction and operation at Moss Farm will create new skilled jobs for the local area.”
