RWE has appointed Dr Tobias Keitel (pictured) as Chief Technology Officer for its offshore wind division, effective from 15 September 2025.
Keitel will join the management board of RWE Offshore Wind GmbH in a newly created role, overseeing engineering, procurement and construction, as well as health, safety and environment.
RWE said the appointment will strengthen its management focus on the delivery of its growing offshore wind pipeline.
CEO Markus Krebber said: “In Tobias Keitel, our company has gained a highly experienced manager who will join the board of our offshore wind division as CTO Offshore Wind.”
He added: “Offshore wind is a key part of the energy transition in many countries and an important cornerstone of RWE’s growth strategy.”
Keitel previously served as president and CEO of Voith Hydro and has also worked at Boston Consulting Group and in other roles in the energy and plant engineering sectors.
He holds a doctorate in engineering and an MBA.
At RWE Offshore Wind, he will lead the teams responsible for the company’s global offshore wind project delivery.
The existing chief operating officer, Thomas Michel, will now focus entirely on managing operations for RWE’s offshore fleet, which includes 19 operational wind farms.
RWE operates 6.2GW of offshore wind capacity across five countries, with a 3.3GW equity share.
It currently has four projects under construction: Sofia in the UK, Thor in Denmark, OranjeWind in the Netherlands and Nordseecluster in Germany. These are due for completion between 2026 and 2028 and will add a further 4.8GW of capacity, with RWE’s share amounting to 3.1GW.
