Ventyr selects DNV to certify Sorlige Nordsjo 2

DNV approved to certify wind turbines in Korea

DNV has been appointed by Ventyr to certify the design of Norway’s first bottom-fixed offshore wind farm, the 1500MW Sorlige Nordsjo 2.

The contract covers the wind turbines and offshore substation for the flagship project, located in the southern North Sea near the maritime border with Denmark.

DNV said the scope includes verification of structural components to ensure compliance with Norwegian regulations and international standards.

“Sorlige Nordsjo 2 marks a historic step forward for Norway’s offshore wind ambitions,” said Ventyr project director Wim Verrept.

“Robust certification is essential to delivering safe and sustainable offshore wind infrastructure, and DNV’s experience and technical rigour make them a natural partner for this landmark development.”

DNV executive vice president for renewables certification Kim Sandgaard-Mork (pictured) said the project is a key milestone in Norway’s energy transition.

“DNV has been closely following the development of offshore wind in Norway and is actively supporting Norwegian authorities and regulators with technical insight and guidance,” he said.

Principal engineer and project manager Anne Lene Haukanes Hopstad said certification would confirm that critical components are fit for the North Sea’s harsh conditions.

The Sorlige Nordsjo II development area spans 520km² and lies around 200km from Norway’s south-west coast.

In its North Sea Outlook Report, DNV forecasts more than 150GW of offshore wind capacity in the region by 2050.
