VSB to build hybrid energy park

VSB to build hybrid energy park

VSB Group will begin construction later this year on its first hybrid wind and solar energy park in Germany, combining 21.6MW of wind and 19MWp of solar generation capacity at a site in Saxony-Anhalt.

Preparatory work for the solar installation at the Löberitz project will begin in August 2025 along the A9 motorway near Zschepkau, with full construction of the ground-mounted PV component starting in early 2026.

VSB is developing the solar portion in partnership with municipal utility Stadtwerke Bitterfeld-Wolfen, which holds an option to acquire 5MWp of capacity to deliver local clean energy.

In November 2025, VSB will start road works to repower the existing wind farm at the site, replacing five Vestas V52 turbines with three V172-7.2MW machines, raising capacity from 4.25MW to 21.6MW.

The hybrid energy park will feed power into the grid via VSB’s Salzfurtkapelle substation.

One of the new turbines will share a site with the PV system to optimise land use and enhance grid stability through the complementary generation profiles of wind and solar.

“The combination of wind and solar in a single project is a first for the region,” said Thomas Winkler, managing director of VSB Deutschland.

“We’re pleased to have found a committed partner in the Löberitz Agricultural Cooperative, which is providing a significant portion of the land.”

Dr Felix Grolman, VSB Group chief executive, said: “We look forward to delivering many more megawatts of wind, solar and battery storage projects in collaboration with our local partners.”
