Around 1000 jobs at LM Wind Power are under threat after the company announced it would close its Brazilian turbine blade factory.
LM Wind Power, a subsidiary of GE Vernova, said the decision to cease operations at the Suape site (pictured) was due to a fall in demand in the Latin American market.
The company said it would take several steps to support employees affected by the closure.
A company spokesperson said: “Due to declining demand in the Latin American market, our LM Wind Power blade factory in Suape, Brazil, will cease operations.
“This was a difficult decision, and we are fully committed to supporting our impacted employees and will do everything we can to provide them with comprehensive severance and transition benefits.”
The company confirmed that approximately 1000 employees are impacted by the decision to cease operations.
Steps to support employees will include providing severance pay, benefits continuation for a defined period, career transition services and outplacement support, the company said.
