Vestas is to cut 54 jobs at its Ringkobing factory in Denmark and expand production in Colorado.
The decision is in response to increased order intake and demand for the V163 turbine in the US.
Vestas is moving the majority of hub production for the hardware from the factory in Ringkobing to Colorado, which is expected to affect approximately 54 hourly-paid production employees in the Danish factory, the company told reNEWS.
In a statement, the turbine maker said: “It is always difficult to make decisions that negatively impact our skilled and hardworking colleagues.
“We will explore opportunities to relocate affected colleagues in Ringkobing to minimize the number of layoffs.
“We will continue to have a strong presence in Ringkobing, where nacelles, hubs and drivetrains for our 4MW and 6MW turbines will continue to be produced.”
In an article published on Avisen Denmark, Vestas said it will invite the union representatives to negotiations with a view to negotiating the terms for the employees who are expected to be affected.
Once the negotiations are concluded, the affected employees will be informed as soon as possible.
When the redundancies are completed, it is expected that there will be approximately 350 employees at the Danish factory.
