The German Federal Association of Offshore Wind (BWO) is sounding the alarm that there were only five bids for three offshore areas in the most recent Federal Network Agency results.
“The fact that a total of only five bids were submitted for the three tendered areas is, in my view, a warning signal. The spatial planning of the areas for offshore wind ensures very low full load hours in this area,” BWO Managing Director Stefan Thimm said
“This robs this technology of its great strength and makes it less attractive for investors,” Thimm said.
Luxcara won a contract for the 1.5GW area, scheduled for grid connection in 2029. RWE wond two bids for the N-9.1 and N-9.2 sites, each with a 2GW capacity.
RWE’s projects are expected to be operational in 2030 and 2031.
The BWO’s Thimm also hit out at the government’s decision not to publish the total proceeds of the tender.
“I would have liked to see more transparency here,” he said.
“It is important to understand the extent to which offshore wind energy contributes to solving tasks for society as a whole, such as the expansion of grids or the protection of the marine environment.”
