A 100MW wind project, developed by Germany energy producer LEAG, has been approved in accordance with the Federal Immission Control Act.
The Forst-Briesnig 2 wind project, which is being built by EP New Energies on behalf of LEAG, can begin construction.
It will host 17 wind turbines and is being built in Lusatia near the town of Forst on a recultivated area of the Jänschwalde opencast mine.
“This is another milestone in the transformation of Lusatia into Germany’s green powerhouse. Step by step, we want to connect up to 7GW of wind and solar power generation plants to the grid by 2030 and 14GW by 2040 and H2-ready gas-fired power plants or pure H2 power plants,” said LEAG chief executive Thorsten Kramer.
The recultivation area of around 320 hectares, on which Forst-Briesnig 2 is to be built, is the responsibility of LEAG under mining law.
It is currently being produced for agricultural use together with the Heinersbrück consortium.
In addition to agricultural use, areas are to be used for renewable energy production.
The commissioning of the Forst-Briesnig 2 wind farm is planned for 2025.
