Dutch offshore wind farms are among the infrastructure that could be sabotage targets for Russia.
The Dutch vital maritime infrastructure in the North Sea, such as internet cables, gas pipelines and wind farms, can be vulnerable to attack, according to Dutch military reports.
They state that Russia is covertly mapping this infrastructure and undertaking activities that indicate espionage and preparatory acts for disruption and sabotage.
Such a physical threat to other vital sectors, such as energy supply, is also conceivable, as long as such attacks can be carried out covertly, according to the report 24/2 The Russian attack on Ukraine: a turning point in history, published by Dutch defence.
It concludes: “It may be useful for Russia to prepare for physical disruption and sabotage.
“The MIVD and AIVD inform organisations responsible for organising and implementing security measures to increase the resilience of vital Dutch processes.”
