The development consortium behind the 450MW Calvados offshore wind farm has ordered several sets of Siemens Gamesa’s new recyclable turbine blades (pictured).
The Calvados offshore wind farm will be the first French project to deploy these innovative recyclable blades, the group which includes EDF and WPD said.
Unveiled by Siemens Gamesa last September, this new model of recyclable blade will be installed on 10 wind turbines at the Calvados offshore wind farm.
An important step that increases the environmental sustainability of the wind farm, which is owned by EDF Renewables, WPD and EIH.
Made from a combination of materials cast together with resin, RecyclableBlade effectively separates resin from other components at the end of the blade’s life, for reuse of materials in many applications such as automotive, aerospace or rail.
Calvados offshore wind farm director Bernard Guitton said: “We are very pleased that the Calvados offshore wind farm will become the first French project to deploy recyclable blades from its industrial partner Siemens Gamesa.
“This commitment is a continuation of the work of the teams carried out over the past 10 years, to constantly improve the environmental footprint of the park and its sustainability, from the design phase to its dismantling.”
