ABB and Ramboll have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on pursuing new prospects for offshore substations within the global offshore wind market.
The companies’ combined strengths in energy, offshore, construction, operation and maintenance not only bring credibility for EPC contractors offering services for substations, the companies said.
The partnership will also enable an alternative solution for the developers who want to increase competition on fabrication, they added.
ABB managing director in Norway Per Erik Holsten said: “We look forward to a fruitful cooperation with Ramboll.
“The agreement with Ramboll is set to advance generation and transmission of renewable energy from offshore wind farms, crucial for the energy transition to net-zero.”
Ramboll global director for energy transition Patrick Gilly added: “This partnership supports our ambition of becoming a global leader in the green energy transition and shares the importance of well-designed and engineered offshore substations for the development of offshore wind.
“We look forward to our collaboration and contribution to a more sustainable energy system.”
Under the agreement, ABB will provide the design and supply of electrical, SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), automation, and telecommunications equipment, including engineering, products, installation, commissioning, and operational maintenance of such equipment.
Ramboll will contribute engineering services in development, design and specification, construction, maintenance, and operation, including disciplines of structural, piping, mechanical & layout, process, and technical safety, electrical, SCADA, automation, and telecommunication systems.
The initial agreement is valid up to five years and facilitates collaboration on a case-to-case basis.
