Austria’s Palfinger has broken into the French offshore wind sector with a deal to supply 71 cranes to the 500MW Fecamp project off Normandy.
The PF14000-4.5 LDB fixed-boom cranes will lift materials and tools from the supply vessel onto the laydown area of the transition deck during the installation and commissioning of the turbines.
The units will also be used during routine inspection and service work.
Under the deal, Palfinger will also deliver two PTM600-20m telescopic boom cranes to the project’s operations and maintenance base for loading and unloading materials and equipment to and from crew transfer vessels.
“Winning this project has opened the door for Palfinger to the French offshore wind market and significantly strengthens our footprint in the European offshore wind industry,” said Palfinger sales manager for wind Nikolaj Bæk Rosenkrantz.
Fecamp, developed by EDF Renewables, WPD and Enbridge, is due to be commissioned in 2023.
Construction of the operations and maintenance base for the project started in November.
