Chinese manufacturer MingYang Smart Energy has signed a memorandum of understanding with Pecem Industrial Complex (CIPP) to develop a pilot offshore wind farm off the coast of Ceara in Brazil.
MingYang vice president Larry Wang said the MoU is an important step is realising Brazil’s first offshore wind project.
He said: “We believe that MingYang and Pecem will be great partners.
“In the next phase, we intend to develop our pilot offshore wind project and build valuable experience in permitting, design, cost, construction and operation for large scale offshore wind projects in the future.
“MingYang is willing to share these experiences with the State of Ceara, CIPP and whole industry.
“This pilot project will be the first offshore wind project in Brazil or even in South America, so we plan to start the construction by early 2022.”
CIPP president Danilo Serpa said: “Today, the CIPP has company that directly contributes to the energy matrix of the State of Ceara.
“Now we are starting the pre-feasibility studies for this pioneering offshore wind project, which is extremely important for the development and the consequent maturation of the renewable energy sector in Brazil.
“We believe that MingYang and Pecem will be great partners. The signing of this MoU marks an important step of the first offshore wind project in Brazil.”
