Development work on a 240MW wind farm in Azerbaijan has accelerated with the installation of wind monitoring equipment at the proposed project area.
According to the Executive Agreement signed by the Ministry of Energy with ACWA Power, three wind monitoring stations were installed in Khizi and the remainder in the Absheron region.
Wind measurements will be carried out through these 100m-high stations between nine to 12 months to determine the optimal location of the turbines.
It is expected that the site will house 40 wind turbine plants with a capacity of 6MW each in the mountainous part of Pirakashkul village of Absheron region and Sitalchay village of Khizi region.
Under the plans, 17 wind turbines with a total capacity of 102 megawatts will be installed in the Pirakeshkul part of the wind power plant.
An additional 23 wind turbines with a total capacity of 138MW in the mountainous area near the village of Sitalchay in Khizi region.
Topographic works and engineering-geological surveys have been completed in the areas designated for the wind power plant.
Research on environmental and social impact assessments is ongoing.
An additional 200MW solar power plant will be built in Garadagh and Absheron districts.
Preparations are underway for surveys and research to assess environmental and social impacts in the project areas.
