First Subsea has been awarded a cable protection system contract by Jan De Nul for the 376MW Formosa 2 offshore wind project, off Taiwan.
First Subsea, part of Aberdeen-headquartered First Tech Group, will supply the kit for the export and inter-array cables for Formosa 2.
Formosa 2 will consist of 47 turbines and is situated in the Strait of Taiwan.
Jan De Nul Group kicked off the construction of the wind farm early 2020, with subsea cables installation operations scheduled to commence next year.
First Subsea’s order follows on from a cooperation with Jan De Nul for part of the export cable protection systems supplied for Formosa 1 Phase 2, which was executed and delivered last year.
The cable protection system has been designed to protect the cable during installation and during the operational lifespan of the wind farm, helping to reducing cable wear and tear at the point of entry into the wind turbine offshore structures.
The wind farm is being developed as a joint venture between JERA, Macquarie Green Investment Group, and Swancor Renewable Energy.
