The consortium developing the 25MW WindFloat Atlantic floating wind farm off the coast of Portugal has released a video showing the mooring line pre-lay operation for the project.
The video is the second of four documenting the installation of the floating wind farm by partners Vryhof, Bourbon Subsea Services and Principle Power.
Bourbon Subsea Services operations manager Helene Butat said: “I’m fond of following new paths and pioneering within new territories.
“Floating offshore wind is a fast-growing market with a lot of potential. As the world leader in this field of offshore installations, we as Bourbon have to stay ahead.
“This second episode focuses on the challenges behind the project management and engineering of the installation at sea of turbines representing about half of the size and weight of the Eiffel Tower.”
WindFloat Atlantic, which comprises three MHI Vestas V164-8.4 MW turbines, is located 20 km off the coast of Viana do Castelo in Portugal.
The project is led by the Windplus consortium of EDPR (54.4%), Engie (25%), Repsol (19.4%) and Principle Power (1.2%).
