RWE Renewables has begun full operations at its 57MW Morcone project in Italy, which is the developers’ largest wind farm in the country.
The project is located in mountainous terrain around Benevento in the region of Campania, and features 19 Vestas 3MW turbines.
Construction work started in 2018 and the project was partially energised last summer.
“Italy is one of our core markets for wind energy. The country is seeing continued expansion of renewables and we are happy to contribute to this development,” said RWE Renewables chief executive Anja-Isabel Dotzenrath.
“The Morcone site represents another step to strengthen our position as a leading producer of renewable energy,” she added.
The site is the developers’ 15th wind farm in the country and takes its operating capacity to 440MW.
RWE said it has already started construction work at its next project at Alcamo in Sicily.
