Renewable energy generation in Belgium increased 17% in 2019, according to data from the country’s transmission system operator Elia.
Elia said on- and offshore wind and solar power generated 11.52 terrawatt-hours last year, compared with 9.82TWh in 2018.

The company said the majority of the electricity came from solar in the summer and wind in the winter.
It noted that renewables delivered a record 16% (1.17TWh) of the country’s electricity load in December last year.
Offshore and onshore generation records were also broken in December.
Offshore delivered 616 gigawatt-hours, with the previous record of 517GWh set in October.
Onshore wind output was 499GWh, beating the previous record set in March 2019 of 460GWh.
