First Subsea is to supply dynamic bend stiffener connectors for the 50MW Kindcardine floating offshore wind farm off Scotland.
The contract with Spanish developer and construction company Cobra Group will see 11 connectors delivered, building on an initial supply to the pilot turbine last year.
First Subsea collaborated with Trelleborg on the connector, which comprises primarily of a diver-less subsea connector and a conical polymer bend stiffener.
The connector system attaches around the power cable and is pulled into a receptacle on the floating wind turbine platform, the company said.
First Subsea sales and business development director Greg Campbell-Smith said: “The diver-less bend stiffener connector’s unique feature is that it can be easily disconnected and reconnected if the turbine is recovered and towed back to the quayside for service.”
The dynamic bend stiffener provides continuous over-bending and fatigue protection for the cable at the critical foundation entry point, First Subsea said.
First Subsea and Trelleborg have previously supplied diver-less bend stiffener connectors on the Fukushima floating offshore wind farm in Japan.
