One in four oil and gas executives believe the sector’s supply chain will not be able to deliver the UK and Scottish governments’ net zero carbon targets, according to a survey published today.
The survey by UK energy consultancy Lloyd’s Register found 26% of respondents believe the supply chain does not have the right skills and expertise.
Lloyd’s Register energy director David Clark (pictured), said the results show new expertise and technology is critical.
“The fact that a quarter of leading players in the industry do not believe the supply chain is ready should be a call to action,” he said.
“The industry urgently needs to upskill and enhance its technology capabilities.”
Earlier this year, the UK and Scottish government set binding economy-wide net zero targets for 2050 and 2045 respectively. In the oil and gas sector, the industry’s supply chain provides more than 90% of all jobs.
