Ameren Missouri is to acquire a 300MW unnamed wind farm in its home US state from Enel Green Power subsidiary Tradewind Energy.
The acquisition will go through when the project, in Atchison County, becomes operational in 2020.
Ameren Missouri still needs to obtain the Missouri Public Service Commission’s review and approval of the wind farm before construction can start.
The facility will join two other wind farms Ameren is acquiring in the state, with the combined capacity of all three totalling 857MW.
All three planned facilities remain subject to a number of conditions including obtaining timely and acceptable transmission interconnection agreements.
Ameren is investing $1.4bn in the projects.
Ameren Missouri chairman and president Michael Moehn said: “Adding home-grown renewable energy in Missouri benefits our state by integrating more renewable resources onto the grid and boosting local economies.
“We anticipate that over 300 high-quality jobs will be created while the project is being built.”
Ameren Missouri vice president of power operations and energy management Ajay Arora said: “This third facility is planned to be the most advanced in the state by harnessing more wind with fewer turbines.
“In taking advantage of this new technology, we’re taking another step in transitioning our generation fleet to cleaner resources and achieving our goal of reducing carbon emissions 80% by 2050.
