Amazon has announced plans to source electricity from three unnamed wind farms with a combined capacity of 229MW in Ireland, Sweden and the US.
In Ireland, Amazon will buy power from a 91.2MW project in Donegal that is expected to be online by the end of 2021.
The company will also source electricity from a 91MW facility at Backhammar in Sweden, which is expected to be operational by the end of 2020.
A 47MW wind farm in the Tehachapi Mountains of California will also deliver power to Amazon data centres by the end of 2020.
The company said expected generation from the three projects is 670,000 megawatt-hours a year.
The deals are part of Amazon’s commitment to source 100% renewable energy for all its global infrastructure.
Amazon Web Services vice president of global infrastructure and customer support Peter DeSantis said: “Each of these projects brings us closer to our long-term commitment to use 100% renewable energy to power our global AWS infrastructure.
“These projects are well-positioned to serve AWS data centres in Ireland, Sweden and the US.
“We expect more projects in 2019 as we continue toward our goal of powering all AWS global infrastructure with renewable energy.”
