Red Rock Power has been granted planning permission by the Scottish government for an onshore substation to serve the 700MW Inch Cape wind farm off the country’s east coast.
The export infrastructure will be located at the former Cockenzie Power Station site at East Lothian.
Project manager Ian Johnson said the consent decision is a “key milestone” for the wind farm that will “ensure the project can move forwards within the required timescales”.
“We look forward to continuing the positive work we have been doing with East Lothian Council and the local communities in order to finalise plans and agreements and ensure construction can begin on time in 2020,” he said.
“The project will act as a positive catalyst in the local area as it continues to go through a period of change following the closure of the power station.”
The SDIC of China-owned developer is planning to bid in this year’s Contracts for Difference auction with the project, which could come online in 2023 if successful in the allocation round.
