The 240MW Ararat wind farm in the Australian state of Victoria has been completed, with all 75 of its GE turbines now feeding energy into the grid.
The project, powered by GE 3.2-103 machines, has an agreement to provide the Australian Capital Territory with 40% of electricity produced from the site. Construction commenced in late 2015.
“Once again the ACT is leading the way by reaching key milestones as we progress towards our ambitious renewable energy targets,” the territory’s climate change minister, Shane Rattenbury, said.
The ACT, which is home to Australia’s capital city Canberra, wants to generate 100% of its power from renewables by 2020.
Next year, the government expects the Sapphire, Hornsdale 2 and Crookwell 2 wind farms to begin generation, with Hornsdale 3 set to come on line in 2019.
The Ararat project is co-owed by a consortium of RES, GE, Partners Group on behalf of clients and OPTrust. It will be operated and managed by local company Windlab.
