Avangrid Renewables is poised to start installing turbines at the 298MW El Cabo wind project in New Mexico.
The development will feature 142 Gamesa G114-2.1 MW machines and represents one of the Spanish turbine manufacturer’s biggest ever orders. Gamesa completed its merger with Siemens earlier this month.
New Mexico state land commissioner Aubrey Dunn said turbine installation is expected to commence next week.
The project, located four miles west of Encino, will help the state reach a goal requiring utilities to generate 20% of their 2020 sales from renewable sources, she said.
US utility Avangrid was formed through a merger between Iberdrola and UIL Holdings Corporation.
