Blue Water Shipping has transported three 88.4-metre long wind turbine blades manufactured by LM Wind Power from Esbjerg in Denmark to Bremerhaven in Germany.
The Danish outfit, which chartered the open deck carrier Meri from Meriaura to carry out the work, said this was the first time that blades of this size had been transported by sea.
The blades, each of which weighs approximately 34 tonnes, were unloaded by Blue Water BREB, a joint venture between the company and German port agent Bremer Reederei E&B.
Two floating cranes were used for the work to place the blades on the quay, Blue Water said.
“The entire operation was executed under time pressure and stormy weather within the customer’s deadline,” it added.
