Aquila Capital has agreed to buy a 148MW wind farm in northern Sweden backed by a 10-year power purchase agreement with Google.
The 41-turbine wind project in Lehtirova, one of the largest in Scandinavia, is being developed by OX2, Aquila said.
Construction of the facility has started and is scheduled to be completed by December 2018.
It will comprise Vestas V126-3.6MW turbines with a total height of 184 metres.
The turbines will include Vestas’ de-icing technology and are also backed by a 15-year active output management service agreement.
Turbine delivery is expected to start in the second quarter of 2018.
“Google has been carbon-neutral since 2007 and we are committed to powering 100% of our operations with renewable energy sources,” Google director of global infrastructure Francois Sterin said.
“Today’s announcement is Google’s 7th European wind power deal to date and reinforces our position as the world’s largest corporate renewable buyer.”
