JDR Cable Systems has won a contract from Siem Offshore Contractors to design, manufacture and supply about 163km of inner array cables for the 588MW Beatrice offshore wind farm off the Scottish coast.
JDR will manufacture the 33kV cables at its Hartlepool facility, where they will be directly loaded out into the turntables on Siem’s cable lay vessel Siem Aimery.
Tekmar Energy has been selected by Siem to supply cable protection for the inner array grid.
Siem was awarded the turnkey contract for the supply and installation of the inner array grid for Beatrice by SHL Offshore Contractors in June.
Siem will also provide associated materials and services including the supply of the submarine composite cables, cable protection and related accessories, as well as post-installation termination, trenching and testing services.
The offshore works for the package are set to begin in 2017, with project completion scheduled in 2018.
Beatrice will feature 84 Siemens 7MW wind turbines.
Siem has also opened an office in Westhill, Aberdeenshire, Scotland to serve as local project office and act as the focal point for the company’s UK market growth strategy.
The office will house 10 full-time employees, supported by head-office staff and domestic and international subcontractors as required.
It is envisaged that future UK contracts will be managed via this office, Siem said.
