SSE is to carry out a turbine delivery trial run tomorrow for the 110MW Bhlaraidh wind farm located on Glenmoriston estate in the Great Glen.
The trial run will take place between 9.00am and 2.00pm and involve a long vehicle with an extendable trailer that simulates the dimensions of a turbine blade, SSE said.
The delivery route runs from Kyle of Lochalsh Harbour to Broadford Aerodrome, where the vehicle will turn and travel to the wind farm site near Invermoriston.
SSE said the route encompasses the local road network, the A87 and A887 south from the Isle of Skye.
The company said the local roads affected include Kyle Prospect Road, where the harbour’s lower level car parking bays shall be closed off for the duration of trial.
Alternative parking shall be made available at the Lochalsh Hotel and the Lochalsh Leisure Centre, SSE said.
Bhlaraidh project liaison manager Corinna Scholes said: “The trial run of the turbine deliveries is a significant milestone for Bhlaraidh and it provides us the opportunity to check and ensure the turbines can be transported smoothly and efficiently from Kyle of Lochalsh to the Bhlaraidh site without any major issues.”
The project will feature 30 Vestas V117-3.45MW and two V112.3.45MW wind turbines.
It is scheduled to fully operational by the end of 2017.
