Mexico’s Infraestructura Energetica Nova (IEnova) has acquired the 252MW Ventika wind project from subsidiaries of Blackstone Group and partners for $852 million, including $477 million of debt.
The 84-turbine project comprises two adjacent wind farms, located about 35 miles from the US border in the northern Mexican state of Nuevo Leon. It is the largest wind project in the country and one of the largest in South America, IEnova said.
Each wind farm features 42 Acciona AW-3000 turbines with a nominal output of 3MW each.
Construction was completed in December and commercial operations commenced in April.
IEnova said it expects the transaction to close in the fourth quarter of 2016.
