Prysmian vessel Cable Enterprise has started installing the second 25km cable section at the Ostwind 1 link in the German Baltic Sea, having completed the 27km first section in June.
50 Hertz, the transmission system operator for north and eastern Germany, said cable burial speed is at least 2km a day.
The TSO added that the cable route has been cleared of unexploded ordnance but some stones still have to be removed.
It said burial tests are currently being implemented in shallow waters without cables in order to “identify critical sections”.
On the onshore section of the route, 43 out of 48 horizontal drillings have been completed, 50 Hertz said.
The 93 km Ostwind 1 system will connect the Westlich Adlergrund cluster in the German Baltic Sea to the transformer station in Lubmin, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
The link includes Iberdrola’s 350MW Wikinger project, currently under construction, and Eon’s 385MW Arkona wind farm.
The grid link is expected to be completed in late 2018.
