Fred Olsen Windcarrier’s jack-up Brave Tern has loaded all five of GE Renewable Energy’s 150 6MW nacelles for the 30MW Block Island wind project in the US.
The company said the vessel is set to start its journey from St Nazaire in western France to the US east coast and Block Island wind farm imminently.
Fred Olsen Windcarrier vessel master Tony Cato said: “Brave Tern is now ready for her first transatlantic voyage.
“We will be sailing via the Azores and Bermuda to take advantage of the favourable winds and ocean currents, before reaching the East coast of the US, and anticipate arriving in two and a half weeks.”
The towers and blades have already been delivered to the Port of Providence in the US.
Block Island developer Deepwater Wind plans to start turbine installation in August, with commissioning of the US’s first offshore wind farm expected in late 2016.
