Siemens has started building work at its new €200m wind turbine manufacturing facility at Cuxhaven in Germany.
The company said soil compaction and the preparation of the 1900 foundation piles has already been completed at the 170,000 square meter site.
Siemens said the piles will hold in place a 320m long and more than 160m wide poured concrete plate to form the base of the future production hall.
Civil engineering works for the foundations of the production facility will start in the coming weeks, the company added.
The production hall is scheduled to be complete in mid-2017, while a two-story office, canteen and technology building is also being constructed.
Production of the 7MW direct drive offshore wind turbines is set to start in summer 2017, coinciding with the start of manufacturing of the 75m rotor blades at Siemens new plant in Hull in the UK.
The two plants will be connected by two specialised transport vessels using roll-on and roll-off logistics, Siemens said.
