GE Renewable Energy’s new 2.0–2.4MW wind turbine was chosen for contracts totalling over 1GW in the US in the first quarter of 2016.
The company said some of the larger deals were signed in Texas and North Dakota, including Starwood Energy’s 230MW Electra 1 project.
The 1GW total was also boosted by GE’s acquisition of Alstom’s renewable energy unit.
The turbines have rotor diameters of 107 metres and 116 metres, GE said.
GE president and chief executive officer Anne McEntee said: “Our new 2MW platform has helped us deliver a strong start to 2016, and we hope to see continued global growth as we build our backlog the rest of the year.”
