The economy ministry in Lower Saxony has given the go ahead to a new berth at the German port of Cuxhaven which will be used to load out turbine components.
Berth 4 will feature a quay length of 240 metres and is suitable for vessels with a draft of over 14 metres.
It will be completed next year the ministry said and will be offered to Siemens, which is building a manufacturing facility at the port, and other offshore operators in the wind business.
State Secretary for economic affairs in the German province Daniela Behrens said the project would cost up to €36m.
Behrens added that it will strengthen the area’s potential as an onshore centre for the German North Sea offshore wind industry.
“I am pleased that we have a powerful partner for the implementation and future operation of the new terminal with Cuxport. The management and financing of the entire project sets a benchmark for future projects of this magnitude,” she said.
