The Scottish Liberal Democrats have proposed a shopping list of renewable energy policies in the party’s manifesto for next month’s Holyrood elections.
A commitment to 100% green electricity is maintained and the party said it will “take steps to make sure that this comes from varied and growing sources through a diverse and expanding generation portfolio”.
Specific policies include improved planning for wind farm repowering, a national strategy for floating offshore wind and a “no cost” mainland grid connection to enable a marine energy zone in Orkney.
Also on the menu is future funding for Wave Energy Scotland, a strategy for energy storage, redistribution of the £10m Saltire Prize cash and increased community ownership across renewables.
The LibDems also promised to “challenge the UK government on their withdrawal of support” for renewables. Green heat and low-carbon transport are also priorities for the party.
“Scottish Liberal Democrats will give a priority to warm homes, renewable heat, low-carbon transport as well as continued support for renewable electricity generation and a move away from high-polluting fossil fuels with action to cut carbon emissions from industry,” it said.
