Montauk Energy’s 22MW Bowerman landfill gas-to-energy project is up and running near Irvine in Orange County, California.
The $60m facility, which covers 2.6 acres of the Bowerman landfill, was financed by Caterpillar Financial Services Corp.
Montauk chief executive officer David Herrman said: “This is the largest project of its kind utilizing landfill gas that combines gas feedstock clean up, large-scale Cat reciprocating engine-generators and selective catalytic reduction technology to meet the strict emission requirements here in Orange County.”
The project is Orange County’s third landfill gas-to-energy facility. The other two are Olinda (Brea) and Prima Deshecha (San Juan Capistrano).
