GeoSea goes XL at Galloper

Siemens has awarded DEME offshore engineering division GeoSea an turnkey foundation contract for EnBW’s 497MW Hohe See offshore wind farm in the German North Sea.

GeoSea’s contract includes the design, engineering, procurement, fabrication and installation of 71 foundations consisting of a monopile and transition piece.

Earlier this month, German developer EnBW installed Siemens as turbine and foundations supplier for the Hohe See wind farm, the first time a contract has combined turbines and foundations in the German offshore wind market.

Siemens will deliver 71 of its SWT-7.0-154 turbines. VBMS will supply inter array cabling. The offshore substation will be built by a consortium of Cofely Fabricom, Iemants and CG.

EnBW’s Hohe See contracts are divided into two phases. A one-year design phase will be followed by an implementation phase subject to a final investment decision for the project later this year.

The Hohe See offshore wind farm is situated some 90 km north of the island of Borkum in the German North Sea. The project will cover an area of around 40 square kilometres with water depths of up to 39m.

“The Hohe See offshore wind project preparatory phase will be taken care of by our specialist teams located in our new offices in Bremen,” DEME executive Christopher Iwens said.

In May 2015, DEME acquired the offshore assets and personnel of its former German partner Hochtief Offshore Solutions.

DEME subsidiary GeoSea was involved in the construction of the German offshore wind farms Nordsee One, Godewind, EnBW Baltic 2, Borkum Riffgrund 1, Amrumbank West, Alpha Ventus and Borkum West 2.1.
