Edinburgh ministers have rejected ScottishPower Renewables plans for the seven-turbine Harestanes 2 wind farm in Dumfries and Galloway.
The utility developer had been seeking to boost the operational 142MW project (pictured) by up to 16.1MW through a “standalone” addition to the north of the first phase.
Ministers agreed with a reporter’s recommendation that the project be refused largely on the grounds of landscape and visual effects.
“These are a consequence of the prominent nature of the site, its contribution to the setting of mid-Annandale, and the contrast in the landscape character of the development site with that of the site of the existing wind farm,” said the government.
SPR filed an application for the wind farm in 2013. A public local inquiry was held in summer this year following an objection from Dumfries and Galloway Council.
