Rentel has chosen Siemens as its preferred bidder for the supply and installation of 42 of wind turbines at the 294MW offshore wind farm off the coast of Belgium.
The deal is for the SWT 7MW 154 model and also involves a 15-year maintenance agreement.
The turbines will be the largest ever within the Belgian North Sea – a hub height of 106 metres and rotor diameter of 154 metres.It will be the first wind plant in Belgian waters with direct drive (without gearbox), connecting its rotor directly to the generator.
Construction is expected to start in 2017-2018, with project financing of €1.25bn scheduled to be completed next year.
The first power will come from the plant in 2018.
