Grupa Przemysłowa Baltic (GBP) has completed two offshore substations for the 1200MW Northland Group and PKN ORLEN joint venture Baltic Power, Poland’s most advanced offshore wind project.
The event marked the kick-off for commercial-scale offshore wind in Poland, according to trade group WindEurope.
WindEurope Deputy CEO Malgosia Bartosik said: “Poland’s first offshore wind farms are starting to take shape.
“Offshore wind will create tens of thousands of good jobs.
“It will revitalise coastal regions and communities – here in Pomerania and elsewhere.”
Poland has a goal of 5.9GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030, comprising seven individual wind farms.
The project is set to be commissioned in 2026, and alone will cover 3% of Poland’s electricity demand.
Bartosik added that offshore wind will make Europe more autonomous.
She said: “It will make countries like Poland less dependent on energy imports from Russia and elsewhere.
“It’s key to Europe’s industrial competitiveness.”
