Elia has issued a pair of tenders for the manufacture of subsea cables and design of its Modular Offshore Grid project off Zeebrugge in the North Sea.
The Belgian transmission system operator aims to optimally connect as many wind farms as possible to an offshore high-voltage substation that will be linked to its onshore grid.
One tender targets the design of the offshore switchyard platform, which will be located up to 45km off the Belgian coast at a water depth of 30 to 35 metres.
The design phase is scheduled for 2017, with onshore construction starting in 2018 and offshore construction a year later.
The second call targets the design and installation of two 3-core 220KV AC submarine power cables with integrated fibres for monitoring and communications of about 45km in length.
Bidders for both tenders have until 1 August to express an interest.
