BLG Logistics and the City of Bremen in Germany have signed an operating agreement for a 25-hectare terminal at Bremerhaven for the use in the offshore wind industry.
Under the terms of the agreement, BLG will operate the facility for 30 years, work on which started last year.
The €180m terminal is expected to be ready by the end of 2018 or early 2019 for turbine pre-assembly.
It will have a 500-metre quay able to accommodate two to three jack-up turbine installation vessels.
BLG chief executive officer Frank Dreeke said: “In our view the [terminal] offers excellent handling facilities for the entire offshore wind industry.
“We are not only thinking of new wind farms. A growing number of existing wind farms must be maintained in the future.”
