Engineering consultancy Niras is to carry out environmental impact assessments for Hofor’s proposed 250MW Aflandshage and 160MW North Flint offshore wind farms in Oresund off Denmark.
Niras said one of the aims is to ensure that the wind farms can co-exist with Copenhagen airport, as well as assess the potential impact of the project on birds on the island of Saltholm.
Niras senior project manager Bent Somod said: “It is an exciting task with many aspects that require thorough research. For example, there will be many opinions about the wind farms’ visual expression.
“Therefore, we must make sure that the parks add something to the area, just like the wind turbines at Middelgrunden, which have become a landmark for Copenhagen.”
