The Danish government has approved plans to build a 400MW offshore wind interconnector between Denmark and Germany via Kriegers Flak.
Minister Lars Christian Lilleholt has approved the €320m project , which is a joint initiative between transmission operators Energinet.dk and 50Hertz.
The so-called combined grid solution will link the two countries as well as EnBW’s operational 50MW Baltic 1 and 288MW Baltic 2 and the planned 600MW Kriegers Flak wind farms.
“The minister’s approval will help to shape the future of the cross-border electricity market (when) much more electricity will be traded back and forth across borders,” said Energinet.
The project is due to be up and running by end-2018 and contracting is now preparing to kick off. Europe is supporting the development with up to €150m in funding.
