Administrators have been appointed to the 10MW Dounreay Tri floating offshore wind demonstration project in northern Scotland.
Swedish foundation designer Hexicon is among a group of shareholders backing the project.
Hexicon blamed the administration of project company Dounreay Tri Ltd on a lack of funding.
“The project needs further capital to be completed,” it said last week in a story published exclusively in subscriber-only newsletter reNEWS.
Work has been suspended and funding is being sought by the administrators from accountancy firm French Duncan “to complete construction in an orderly manner”, Hexicon added.
The project must be built by end-October 2018 to qualify for Scotland’s 3.5 Renewables Obligation certificate scheme for floating wind.
Global Energy’s Nigg yard holds contracts for the majority of fabrication and final assembly. The company declined to comment.
The administrators, appointed by the Edinburgh Sheriff Court, also declined to comment.
