Engie has secured a positive final consent decision to build the 496MW Le Treport wind farm off northern France, completing a complex permitting process.
The regional prefect of Normandy has handed down the remaining elements of authorisation after public discussions, which ran for several months.
First offshore construction work at the €2bn project is scheduled to kick off next year with commissioning slated for 2023.
However, that timetable could slip due to appeals.
Other French offshore wind projects have faced appeals, including EDF’s 480MW Saint-Nazaire, which is currently awaiting a decision of the State Council following a hearing last month.
Engie is developing Le Treport in the LEM consortium alongside EDPR, Sumitomo and Caisse de Depots subsidiary la Banque des Territoires.
Siemens Gamesa 8MW turbines are slated to feature at the project, which is located about 17km off the northern Normandy region where waters depths are up to 25 metres.
